SYDNEY boxer Edgar "Brown Sugar" Wymarra claimed the World Boxing Federation Asian-Pacific junior middleweight title with the easiest win of his career at the Yallah Woolshed last week.
Wymarra, who stepped in as a late replacement for the injured Wade "Pit Bull" Clout on Friday, put Fijian veteran Pita Tabuarua down with a left jab 37 seconds into the contest.Tabuarua did not beat the count, leading Box-O-Rama promoter Ross Clout to describe him as "the worst Fijian I have brought over".Sydney's Tim Relfe stopped Queenslander Martin Eastham late in the second round of their scheduled four-rounder.Fijian Waisale Ratu showed some good boxing skills to outpoint Sydney-based compatriot Jamal Khan in a hard-fought contest over six rounds.Guyra boxer Michael Porter made it three fights for three knockouts when he stopped Berkeley's Damien James in the sixth and final round.James boxed well for the first four rounds but his stamina began to falter in the fifth.Porter began to take the fight away from James with some solid head shots and put him down twice in the last round before the referee stopped the contest.Promising Sydneysider Jung Star Min proved far superior to Queenslander Wayne Maynard, dropping him with a vicious left rip in the first round from which he could not recover and was counted out.Meantime, Berkeley baseballer Kaine Abbott has stepped up to the main event on the kickboxing/boxing card at the Fraternity Club tomorrow night.Abbott replaces Wollongong police officer Jason Baltovska who officially withdrew from the kickboxing fight against Campbelltown's Tom Kovac because of a hand injury sustained in training last week.Reflex Kickboxing trainer Dominic Lavalle expects Abbott to acquit himself well against the more experienced Kovac in a super middleweight (72.6kg-76.1kg) contest.Meantime, Warilla professional boxer Michael Mlacic will fight Melbourne's Ben Smullen at Penrith Panthers World of Entertainment tomorrow night.Mlacic is one of Australia's most promising boxers in the lightweight division and expects to challenge national champion, Central Coast's John Cotterill.
